Software for the Oil Exploration Industry
GS Petrophysical Suite (from GeoScience Software)
GS was designed and developed by professional explorationists to deliver innovative, real-world problem solving to general geologists, geophysicists, and engineers - not to dedicated specialists.

The ethos of GeoScience Software is one of continual update. So you know that your software will always contain the latest options. GeoScience listens to their clients, after all you are the people on the ground, and your comments and requests are often quickly acted upon.
GS petrophysical mapping
The Software
GS is a fully integrated PC-based geological system whose primary features include interactive well correlations, comprehensive petrophysical analyses, single or multiple well dipmeter interpretation, integration of mudlog data, seismic synthetics, quick mapping, and HP plotter support to generate large composites and cross sections.

Technically, GS rivals any PC product on the market and in terms of performance and user-friendliness it is unrivaled.

By providing fast and powerful tools to a broad range of technical expertise with no formal training required, GS will maximize your creative potential - you'll be up-and-running on day one without the typical computer department bottlenecks.

These attributes make GS ideal for operations, exploration, and field development applications where fast, practical solutions are required.

crossplot
    Petrophysics.
A complete petrophysical analysis system which includes the following primary features:
  • Comprehensive 2D and 3D log and lithology crossplotting.
  • Complete environmental and Rt (Tornado Chart) corrections.
  • Ten different porosity algorithms, including secondary porosity and an intelligent "computer's choice" mode.
  • V-shale calculations from GR, SP, Potassium, Thorium, Resistivity, and Neutron-Density logs.
  • wa and RwSP calculations including interactive Hingle and Pickett plots.
  • Innovative graphical "F" Overlay Rw determination.
  • Lithology determination using 11 different algorithms including a simultaneous equation solution for complex lithologies.
  • Graphical entry of a "User Interpreted Lithology" which can be used to add a statistical bias to the Lithology calculations.
  • Eight Water Saturation models to choose from.
  • Permeability calculations from three models.
  • Statistical analysis of results (Net Pay, Averages, Net Lithology, Lith ratios, etc.)
  • ASCII file output mode to produce tabular results for export to spreadsheets and word processors.

    Seismic Synthetics
  • A suite of Seismic functions which includes the following primary features:
  • Time - Depth functions from Checkshots and Sonic Log Integration.
  • Multi-well composite Time-Depth compilation in a map mode.
  • Extract "pseudo" Sonic and Density Logs from a petrophysical analysis.
These logs can then be used in the Synthetics.
The advantages are better vertical resolution, elimination of "bad-hole" effects, and reduction of the statistical noise inherent in the density log.
This innovative approach brings geology and geophysics together in the borehole.
  • Seismic Synthetics including: Ricker Zero Phase Wavelet, Butterworth Minimum Phase Wavelet, User Defined Wavelet
  • Integration of the Sonic log with the Time-Depth function
  • RMS and Instantaneous Gain Control (AGC)
  • Stacking Velocity utilities, including Pore Pressure prediction.
  • ASCII file output mode to produce tabular results for export to spreadsheets and word processors.

dipmeter mapping
    Dipmeter Analysis
  • Powerful tools to extract valuable information from Dipmeter Data:
  • Import Dipmeter Data from ASCII Files, including Dip Quality.
  • Complex Structural Dip removal to calculate true sedimentary dips.
Operates in a simple graphical mode.
Multi-well dip statistics operates in a Map mode to extract average dips and azimuths for any group of wells at any horizon.
Excellent for regional and field studies.
Dipmeter Interpretation
    Well Correlations
    A variety of correlation tools:
  • Graphical, interactive well correlations utilizing any log combinations and lithologies.
  • Build detailed Horizons database; Age, Era, Epoch, Biostrat, Palynology, User-Defined, etc.
  • Create large cross sections to HP plotters or BMP files.
  • Utilize any log combinations in the section, shade logs with Lithology, and many other options.
  • Vertical scale in Measured Depth, True Vertical Depth, or Seismic Two-Way Time.
Well Correlations
    Mapping
The Data Extractor and Quick Mapper allow rapid spatial evaluation of large databases - test your concepts quickly:
    Data Extractor
A Data Extractor which quickly compiles a wide range of statistics for all well in the database to produce an XYZ Point file for the Mapper:
  • Horizons (Structure Maps in Time or Depth)
  • Horizon Intervals (Isopach and Isochron maps)
  • Average Log values over any interval
  • Log Cutoff counts over any interval
  • Lithology percentages and ratios over any interval (Lithofacies Maps)
  • Average Dips over any interval (Depositional Energy Maps)
  • Geothermal Gradients to any horizon (Kitchen Maps)
  • Trend and Residual Surface Analysis
    Quick Mapping
  • Contour
  • Color Fill
  • Color Flood
  • A variety of 3-D renderings
  • Point editing functions.
  • Import and Export of XYZ data in ASCII Format

You can download a demonstration copy here. It is an earlier version (4.5) and contains a well data set for study. You cannot import your own data to this demonstration version!

Download GS45DEMO.EXE to a temporary directory. Run GS45DEMO.EXE to decompress and install. Do NOT install to existing GS DOS version directory. After installation, Run GSDEMO from the Start/Programs Task Bar. Check the README.TXT file for help getting started. The manual is also available for download, but GS is so easy to use that it isn't required.
